Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino, both from Brazil, have just set a new world record as the official “shortest married couple” after tying the knot in London.
Paulo and Katyucia both have a form of dwarfism, with a combined height of 181.41cm, (71.42 inches).
Beautician Kat and lawyer Paulo met on social media and spent eight years chatting and dating before finally deciding to tie the knot, although Kat says they didn’t exactly hit it off straight away.
“The first time I started talking to Paulo, he was really annoying,” she laughs, “He had cheap pick-up lines.”
But Paulo reckons it was just a misunderstanding: “She thought I was trying to flirt but I was just being nice. According to her I was a really boring guy!”
Now the happy couple thankfully like each other a lot more, they say they’re “a normal couple but our height is a little smaller”.
“The best thing about our relationship is our closeness, our companionship we have for each other. She supports me in everything. She’s my little warrior.”
The dedicated couple chose to join thousands of people celebrating Guinness World Records Day, and the sale of the one hundred millionth copy of the book being sold, by setting new records.
But ultimately, they want their marriage to drive forward the fight for equality in the world.
“We hope our new record will encourage the world to look past physical differences in others and understand all people should be treated equally.”
We wish this happy couple all the best for the future!
